AllAgesView By Abbey Murphy May is here and school is out at the end of the month! I’m not sure if this is going to be the best month because of the anticipation of summer or if it’s going to be never ending because of the wait, but whatever May brings, it’s going to be awesome!

So I’m going to plan out my dream spring day for May for you! First off, call a friend and get out your bikes and helmets. There’s nothing better than starting your morning off in the fresh air and staying active. My favorite places to ride are in Dry Creek and of course, on the lovely Virginia Corridor. Hit the trails and end up in the fabulous downtown Modesto. You can catch some blues with your breakfast at Deva Cafe on a Sunday morning or head over to Greens Market for some awesome treats.

I don’t know about you, but the season has started for one of my favorite events in Modesto: The Farmer’s Market! After breakfast, make sure to hit this awesome event by the library and pick up fresh fruits and veggies and maybe learn how to make some of your own meals from the professional chefs showcasing fresh meals! This is a great time to enjoy the beauty of Modesto and talk with other excited people around town, but always make sure to stay green and bring your own reusable bags when you buy your new goodies. When you’ve ridden around town and are tuckered out, use your new fruits and experiment with new popsicles to cool off the hot day (we know there are going to be a lot of them this season!). Try this one, I highly recommend it!

What you’ll need to pick up at the market! 1 peach, cut into 1/2-inch slices (1/2 cup)?2 kiwis, peeled and sliced into 1/4-inch rounds?3/4 cup strawberries, finely chopped?1/2 cup blueberries?1/2 cup raspberries?1 1/2 to 2 cups of fruit punch or 100 percent white-grape juice DIRECTIONS 1. Combine fruit in a mixing bowl and arrange the mixture into eight 3-ounce popsicle molds.2. Pour enough juice into each mold to just cover fruit. 3. Insert popsicle sticks and freeze until solid (about six hours). Once you’ve made these popsicles (which can serve up to 8 of you and your friends), relax outside, take a dip in the pool and be grateful that you live in the warm Central Valley which provides all of these fun, fresh, and healthy opportunities every day! Get ready for summer and stay strong in the last few weeks of school, we’re all going to do it together! Start daydreaming in the last periods of class and plan all of the great things you’ll be able to do this summer in good ol’ Modesto, California!
