The new year is a big event for all of us. Each of us tries to create a resolution that will help us to be a better person. This usually means trying to give something up, right? Well, I read that 88% of us won’t go the entire year without “cheating” on our resolution. So, my suggestion for the New Year is not to make one huge change for the year, but instead that each day we choose to do something for someone else. Whether it’s opening the door for someone or paying for someone’s food, it will make a difference. As Aesop said, “No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever wasted.” So for the New Year, and hopefully forever, I will try to perform at least one act of kindness each day.
Another important event that is going on in January is Martian Luther King Jr. Day. Dr. King did so much for our entire world. To honor what he has done, January 19th is dedicated to giving back to your community. The Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Day of Service is a way of celebrating and honoring the legacy of MLK. If you want to learn more, check out the website www.mlkdayofservice.org So in January, and throughout the new year think of Dr. Kings words, “Life’s most persistent question and urgent question is ‘What are you doing for others?’” What great words to live by. So, have a great first month of a beautiful new year, and to those of you in school, have a great second semester!
