I can’t believe that it is officially 2024! The air is filled with the promise of new beginnings, and for many, including myself, it’s the perfect time to set resolutions and goals that will shape the next chapter of our lives. Modesto is known for its strong sense of community, and I plan to contribute by volunteering and getting involved. Whether it’s participating in neighborhood clean-ups, supporting local businesses, or joining community events, I hope to be an active and positive force in the city. As this marks my last year in our beautiful city before I go off to college in the fall, I’m dedicated to staying actively involved, contributing whatever I can to make Modesto even more wonderful.
Recognizing the importance of staying active for both mental and physical well-being, I have various ways to keep myself moving. One way I stay active is through working out at the gym, taking a hike, running, or dancing! If you’re looking to stay fit, there are gyms scattered throughout the city—just find the one nearest to you! However, if the gym isn’t your scene, Modesto has many outdoor spaces perfect for a run or walk. Personally, I enjoy running on the Virginia Trail, a 4.2-mile stretch with plenty of shaded benches for rest. In this new year, my resolution is to stay active outdoors and soak in the sunshine daily.
In 2024 I hope that our schools in Modesto continue to inspire kids to get involved. Whether that be through clubs, sports, or volunteer opportunities, I’m grateful to our schools for providing gender inclusivity. In 2023, several schools, including my own, Central Catholic, introduced their first all-girls flag football teams! This groundbreaking initiative not only expands the range of extracurricular activities available but also challenges traditional norms, sending a powerful message to young girls that they can do anything. It’s a remarkable addition to our school programs, and I’m very thankful for the strides being made in fostering an empowering educational environment in Modesto. Here’s to a year of positive change, growth, and continued community unity! Happy New year, Modesto!
