Intro Welcome
By Chris Murphy
It has been many years since we launched ModestoView Magazine in 2006. I really believe that Modesto will only be great if our youth enjoy growing up here. It is up to us as parents to pay attention and it is our job to build a city where people want to come back. Our first All Ages editor was Madison Murphy, now Leupp in 2006. Our next was Abigail Murphy (Power) in 2007. Leia Johnson took over in 2013 and Sofia Johnson has been with us for the last few years. Madison and Abigail have both successful returned to Modesto and we hope the Johnson girls will do the same after college. We welcome Grace McNamara to this page and we are very excited to see Modesto through her eyes and that we all pay attention. #modestofuture

Hello Modesto! My name is Grace McNamara.
I am the new writer for the All Ages View column. As you all know, Sofia Johnson, a good friend of mine, was the last writer. We will miss her and wish her well at Cal Poly! I am so excited to be following in her footsteps and take over. I am happy to get this opportunity, and I can’t wait to share with you all the love I have for this wonderful city we live in. First, I’d like to introduce myself. I am currently 15 years old. I am a Sophomore at Downey High School. One of my favorite things to do is dance. Since I was four years old, I’ve been dancing, and I am now on my high school dance team.
Danceline is our schools’ dance team that performs at our home Downey games! There’s nothing better than cheering on your home team with your fellow peers, so come to a game under those Friday night lights! I also recently joined our schools’ water polo team. School sports are a great way to try something new and get your body moving! This season, schools will be offering tennis, football, volleyball, polo, golf, and cross country! It is excellent to all stay involved actively. Since summer has come to an end, it can be hard to get back into the swing of things. Many of us, including myself, tend to feel stressed out, whether with work, school, or new environments.
We need to remember that our mental health comes first! It is good to take breaks and have balance. Something I like to do when I’m stressed is to invite a friend and go downtown! Downtown is my absolute favorite area of Modesto! One of my favorite places to unwind is Cafe Deva. It’s such a comforting and welcoming place. Plus, the coffee and food are delicious! Deva is located on 1202 J Street. I highly recommend heading over here!
I hope everyone had a wonderful summer and is looking forward to this upcoming autumn!
