An Everlasting Love. Show Added! Global View by Efren Martinez
Dream fulfilled, I was 15 years young and missed the opportunity to see Howard Jones in Sacramento at the once named Arco Arena. It wasn’t by choice; I just had no ride there.
Since then, I’ve never forgotten about it. Last night I enjoyed Retro Futura at The Mountain Winery. The venue is the nicest most picturesque as far as small venues go. The show opened up with a slight change up, Ultravox’s, Midge Ure, came on stage first only because he had to fly back to Europe right after his set for another show. He graced us with songs such as Vienna and Dancing with Tears in Our Eyes. The concert fans loved it. Next up was Katrina, ex-Katrina and The Waves. She definitely had us all Walking on Sunshine. Tom Bailey of the Tompson Twins closed out the show with his hits such as Sister of Mercy, Hold Me Now with a crowd sing-a-long and so many more. I’d say he gave us just what the Doctor, Doctor ordered.
No doubt here in my mind, Howard stole the show last night. Howard Jones’ performance started out with surprises as he came in from somewhere out of the audience to approach the stage with his keytar strapped over his shoulder. At this point everyone jumped out of their seat and started dancing, everyone including me and my wife. He pounded us with his 80’s hits one right after another and just when you thought things could not get any better, they did an onstage remix of Things Can Only Get Better. It was an amazing show and the crowd ate it up singing along with Howard to songs like No One Is to Blame, New Song, Life in One Day, Like to Get to Know You Well, and Everlasting Love. Howard was totally in control of the night. We were his prisoners when it came to his music and enjoyed it for he was giving us the meaning through his talent of What is Love.
If you missed it, no worries! Another secret show was just added; on Monday Howard Jones and Tom Bailey’s Thompson Twins will give a personal smaller show performance at The Mezzanine in San Francisco on September 1st. Tickets are just $25.00. This will be a first in San Francisco in 27 years that Thompson Twins’ Tom Bailey will be performing all of his hits along with another stellar performance by Howard Jones.
Don’t miss this opportunity to see these legends in an intimate city by the bay show. Efren j Martinez
