The New Year in art in Stanislaus County starts with the final deadline for registration in the Stanislaus Artists Open Studio Tour, January 6. Registration is $20 per artist, for the April 14 and 15 Studio Tour Weekend, with a free to the public, preview show at Gallo Center April 12. Maps can be reserved from the web site and will be available in print February 14. Each map will have an entry form for a visitors drawing to win one of the five Purchase Prize winning original pieces of art. The winning pieces were selected from the Early Bird Registrants as reviewed by juror Lori Hanson. Winners are, Mary Bucknam, Don Hall, Claudia Silva-Doo, Linda Knoll, and Chella Gonsalves. Mistlin Gallery will be finishing up its Members Holiday Show. If you want to get a jump on 2012 holiday shopping for this year or spend your Christmas money on Art, show runs to January 11. After that, the students take over with the annual Young Masters Show. Receiving for works will be January 13th and 14th. Information on fees and prospectus and how to enter can be obtained from the Gallery. Young Masters is open to artists pre-school to High School and great show to drop in for Art Walk. Show opens January 17th and closes February 11th with an awards ceremony at 2:30 pm. Got a New Year’s Resolution to take an art class, or hook up your talented kids? Artel Art Center, Chartreuse Muse, and Mistlin Gallery all have classes on the agenda. Artist Milt Bullard is offering a reasonably priced class for adults in basic drawing at Mistlin Gallery. Each class scheduled in a four-hour session on a Saturday in January, and again in February. Check with your galleries for class descriptions and costs. Want to get back to figure drawing, no instructor? Check out Tuesday nights at the Chartreuse Muse upstairs studio, 7 to 10 pm, $10.

Up the road, quite a number of local artists enter the Delicato Vineyards Fine ArtShow in Manteca. Held for the 24th year in the tasting room, it runs January 15 to February 4. Artists need to deliver works for judging by January 6. In Turlock, if you haven’t seen the Ansel Adams “California” photographic show, go quick. It closes January 11, and costs $10 at the Carnegie Arts Center.

ThirdThursday falls on January 19, for the first 2012 Downtown Modesto Art Walk. There will be a new show at the Chartreuse Muse, and the other seven venues on the map, to start the year. As it is every month, Art Walk is a great opportunity to meet your local area artists. Most of the work shown every Art Walk is available for purchase.
