Art in the Garden comes up September 29. Tickets/maps are $20, with kids under 12 free. Venues included the Mistlin gallery, McHenry Mansion gift center, Deva, Galletto and seven homes in the Graceada Park and La Loma neighborhoods. 38 Central California Art Association members will be on display. Featured stops include Ed Cesena’s home studio with six decades art experience and young artists at Deva. Tickets benefit Mistlin Gallery. Most art on tour is available for purchase. The Complementary Therapy Art Group annual show will open at Mistlin this month.
September is a busy month in art and architecture for the Modesto Art Museum. The Building Imagination Center will open in September on Tenth Street. At the invitation of CSU Stanislaus, MAM will move into the Center at 1009 J Street. The center includes a movie making lab and theatre. The 5th annual Modesto International Architecture Festival is 9 days of events, activities, movies, tours, talks, and workshops that will run September 15 – 23, 2012.
The Chartreuse Muse is celebrating ten years of operation in downtown Modesto. Partners Sandy Veneman and Ellen Roehn will have a partners duo show, and some sort of street fair event for the Muse in mid-September. This will be a good stop on Art Walk September 20.
Long lived artist resident Mary O. Bucknamwished to have an Art Open Studio event at her studio until the day she passed. Her family is planning an event at her studio at 2704 La Palma in Modesto on Sunday September 16, 11 am to 4 pm. This is an opportunity to see so many of her paintings she planned to show to the public before she fell ill. Also September 16, join Central West Ballet and their “Ballet in the Park” in Graceada Park. Members of the Carnegie Arts Center, Stanislaus Arts Alliance, and Central California Art Association/Mistlin Gallery will have information tables at this celebration of the ballet dance form.
Dan Peterson will open a show at the Modesto Junior College Art Gallery, East Campus titled “Work since I’ve Worked – retirement watercolors.” Show runs from September 10th to October 11th with a reception Sunday, 16th `hours 2 to 5 pm. Dan will be the artist in residence and manning the gallery during the show, while also painting more new work. Good chance to meet the artist, well known to many in Stanislaus County, for the quality of his work, and long teaching career.
The MJC Gallery has not been open regularly since last year’s budget and faculty cutbacks. Gallery hours for this show, Monday through Wednesday 10 am to 5 pm, and Thursdays 5 to 8 pm.
Carnegie Art Center is hosting a Garden Party at The Greenery in Turlock, September 8. Center Stage Conservatory at lower level 11th and J has my art up in their theater through their production of “The Betrayal.” Into October. October event to look forward to, the Edgar Degas show at Carnegie Art Center.
