August Arrives!

BargainView: August arrives!
By Monica Barber

August arrives exactly when it intends to… and this year the first days of school are just around the corner. Ms. M has wrapped up her summer reading logs and wishes she could just wrap up the heat as easily. Well, the only thing she can do is keep you from burning a hole in your wallet trying to have fun. Here are some fun things for your August.

National Night Out is August 1st and it lets you take the night off from technology while taking a bite out of crime. This annual event happens every August to promote community self-awareness and prevent crime and drug abuse in the neighborhoods. On this night, Modesto area residents and neighborhoods nationally are encouraged to go outside their homes, turn on lights, and host events to get to know their neighbors. Events are held from  6 to 9 p.m. and they can range from block parties to barbeques while spreading awareness in neighborhood crime prevention. The 13th annual Modstock at Graceda Park returns on August 6th from 10 a.m. to dusk. This event is one of the area’s favorite live events because it supports local youth musicians playing their best covers of classic songs and some originals, and local veteran musical acts throughout the day. The free event includes 77 musical acts, with food, arts, crafts, local vendors, and family fun activities. All of the youth acts are produced by VMI rocks. http://www.modstock.org

The State Theatre is hosting its first Ink Paint Night in its main theater lobby on August 17th at 5 p.m. Inspired by the film The Colour of Ink, the talented artists from Dragonfly Art For Life will be guiding art-curious students through the manipulation of ink to create one or two masterpieces. The 2-hour lesson includes materials: specialty paper, ink, and brushes. Admission is $35 per person. Tickets are limited. Grab a space asap! The 2-hour lesson includes pre-drawn specialty paper, ink, and brushes. Info: https://thestate.org/films/paint-night-with-ink-082023/

Summer winding down doesn’t mean the fun has to stop. Family Movie Night in the Park starts August 18th and happens every Friday night starting at 6 p.m. through the end of September 22nd.  Film Nights in the Park. The free event starts at 6 pm in Graceda Park, where you are able to view a family-friendly film for free. Being outdoors watching a film captures the feeling of going to the drive-in for a new generation. Come see a movie, bring your favorite snacks, and watch a free film with your family.
