Last month we posted on Modesto artists working out of the area. Here’s an update on a few more. In Livermore “Art Happens” monthly Second Thursday event. Jordi Camps, is one, of three artists showing at Bankhead Theater in Livermore, through September 8. Jordi’s display is to the left main hall area, and solo showing in one of the downstairs meeting rooms in the theater, in a venue similar to Gallo Center. Here in Modesto you can find Jordi and his paintings at his shop, Picasso’s Gourmet Deli and Art at Tenth and J.

Local artist Yvette La Force is moving on to Manhattan, to study at the Art Students League of New York. Yvette’s paintings have graced most of the art venues in Modesto over several years, and now takes her dream to New York City. Julie Hawk is sending out her kickstarter thank you postcards, and has started her Philadelphia mural project.

Building Imagination Center is moving over to Gallery 909 and becoming the resident film/video company at State Theatre. Look for their coming Film Festival at State Theatre, December 5. Hope you got a chance to see the Focus Havana photography of Jon Souza and David Shroeder at the Romance of Old Havana event July 27. A new incarnation of this gala experience with new theme is expected in 2014.

The Stanislaus Photo Collective will open its 30th anniversary show at the Mistlin Gallery, July 30 to August 29. According to co-chairs Virginia White-Scoble and Alan Richards, prints to be displayed range from traditional landscapes to avant-garde photo impressionism. Painter Tyler Abshire landscapes are on display at the Chartreuse Muse, and David Bienkowski on display at Tokyo Express.

Call for Artists – Stanislaus Artist Open Studio Tour. Open Studio weekend is scheduled for April 12 and 13 in 2014, and entries are due December 1. Open to artists residing or working in Stanislaus County and environs, the fee to enter is only $20. Sponsored by the Stanislaus Country Regional Roundtable for Travel and Tourism, the Open Studio Tour is in its Fourth Year. No commission charged artists beyond entry fee. The Open Studio Tour is a way to introduce the public to the artists in our area, and where they work.

Another Call for Artists coming up in September – Valley Art Association, for artists to participate in the Carriage Show, now done as part of the Riverbank Wine and Cheese Festival. Pat McCarty is the chair, and will post details next month.

Art in the Garden is September 28. Tickets on sale at the Mistlin Gallery at $20 for this annual Central California Art Association fundraiser. CCAA member artists will show their works, most for sale, in gardens in the La Loma and College Area neighborhoods. Each garden and group of artists is a different environment. Tickets are available mid month.

In Turlock, look for the Picasso Ceramics Show. The Carnegie Art Center Opening night gala for this event is September 14. Show run is September 15 through January 15, 2014 and features plates, bowls, pitchers and vases made by Pablo Picasso. Picasso began his work in clay after attending the 1946 ceramics fair in Vallauris, France. If you need more art fix this month, Second Saturday is open in Sacramento and Sonora. Third Thursday Art Walk this month is August 15.
