It’s the first week of Fall and the weather feels like it. There’s an Autumn chill in the air this evening as the sun dips below the horizon. As the pink disappears and blackness envelops the sky, I find myself walking through Downtown Modesto alone. The calm of the streets sets goosebumps up my arms and chills down my spine. Never fear Ms. M believes she’s always in the place at the right time. Tonight it’s to catch the rising moon that casts an eerie tinge of green across the land. October won’t disappoint with opportunities presenting themselves at the right time & price.

A little pride in one’s community goes a long way. October 1st, welcomes Pride in the Park to Graceda Park. This family friendly festival features food vendors, organized activities and games, live entertainment and more. It is free to the public and all are encouraged to come out and support our local LBGT community. 11am-5pm. 401 Needham Ave. Modesto 95354. More info: 209-605-6685

It doesn’t feel like Halloween until you’ve mastered picking out the right pumpkin! Starting October 1st head out to Dutch Hollow Farms and pick from a wide variety of pumpkins. From 9am to 9pm the entire family can enjoy the fun of an authentic farm experience, including taking pictures on tractors and searching the Pumpkin Patch for the right one. Going on all month.  More info: http://dutchhollowfarms.com/

Legends and pumpkins go hand and hand this time of year. If you’ve ever heard of Ichabod Crane then you know it’s the time of year for ghost stories and the Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Gallo Arts welcomes a performance re-telling the story with live narration, dancing and special effects. Definitely not your grandmother’s ghost story or story to be missed. Age recommendation 10+.
