A Grateful November
By Monica Barber
November is national gratitude month and it is a reminder that sometimes gratitude can be quite unexpected. Saying hello to Penny University in their new brick and mortar location this week reminds Ms. M that it is important to find gratitude in the surprises that happen when supporting local, especially this season of the year. As we head into the season of giving its best to take advantage of saving money. Here are fun ways to spend that month that won’t ruin your budget.
You are never too old to play and enjoy a night at the museum! Modesto Children’s Museum hosts its first MoChiMu After Dark series November 1st with the theme Noche de Alebrijes. This 18 & older event invites young adults to geek out and explore the nightly themes. The MoChiMu will transform into a unique experience after hours designed for young adults to immerse themselves in. The even begins at 6:30pm and continues until 9pm. Tickets: $25. Poetry is an art form that some have mastered with bravery and vulnerability. Catching a poetry reading is the chance to witness stream-of-consciousness words happening in the context of feelings. On November 12th, Most Poetry Center is hosting their Second Tuesday reading at Artist Lab at The Prospect Theater. The event features John Shoptaw, a leading voice in ecopoetics, and Murray Silverstein, releasing his 3rd collection from Red Studio. MOST invites everyone to enjoy the Second Tuesday Poetry reading. Open mic begins after featured guests. The event begins at 7p.m. and is free. Information: www.mostpoetry.org<www.mostpoetry.org/>
Catching live music is a great opportunity for some to discover new artists while others are welcoming them back. Off The Air Returns to the venue at Greens on Tenth with all-ages show on November 22nd featuring The French Cassettes, Travis Vick and Rubber Lizard. Links to ticket information can be found on Off The Air’s Instagram @offtheairmusic. Tickets: $10. 8pm. Info:https://www.instagram.com/offtheair/
