The dog days of summer are here and they are bringing the August heat. The only thing that can beat the heat is your wallet right now and that’s because Ms. M has some fun ways for you to save while you play.

Take the night off from technology and enjoy your community. National Night Out is August 6th. From 6-9 p.m., Modesto area residents and neighborhoods across the country are invited to step outside their home, turn on the lights and spend time getting to know those in their in neighborhood. In the past, many neighborhoods in Modesto have hosted a variety of events such as block parties, barbeques, potlucks and cookouts while playing games and spreading awareness to prevent neighborhood crime. August 11th welcomes one of the area’s most amazing events, Modstock at Graceda Park. The 9th annual free musical festival kicks off at 10am and rocks the day away until dusk. The event includes over 20 musical acts, which include local favorites and many of the youth bands produced from VMI rocks. One of the best ways to enjoy the summer in Modesto are Family Film Nights in the Park. Beginning August 16th, every Friday night starting at 6pm, you can experience a great family film in Graceda Park. Family film night brings back the nostalgia of watching a film outdoors that going to the drive-in used to capture. The Family Film Series is presented for free, every Friday, by the City of Modesto through September 20th. Come out, bring your snacks and watch a free flick and fun things to do for the family. The 10th annual talent show, Valley’s Talent Project returns August 24th. Over the last decade, this annual show has brought together and celebrated some of the valley’s most talented superstars from different parts of the valley. Don’t miss the chance to see the Valley’s most talented acts ranging from dancers to singers to musical acts all vie for a chance to win the cash prizes including the grand prize of $3000 for winning the showcase. This year’s show promises to bring in surprise acts from the past years to celebrate the decade long run of the show. Tickets: $10-20. www.galloarts.org/
