Hope you’re ready for the Summer, Modesto because it’s ready for you. Today finds Ms. M by the pool sipping iced tea and reading a murder mystery. She’s been trying her hand at the Summer Reading Challenge at the Downtown Modesto Library this year. Good news dolls, the challenge runs until August 7th and there’s prizes at the end of it! If you’re interested and live in the Modesto Area, head over to your nearest library. If reading isn’t your thing, don’t fret or worry yourself into the summer time blues. There’s plenty of ways to enjoy yourself this July!

Celebrate Fourth of July, Modesto! Summertime wouldn’t be the same without the annual Fourth of July events in Downtown Modesto! The 144 year-old tradition of celebrating the Fourth continues with traditional parade through downtown. As always don’t miss out on the area’s best floats from local groups, the marching bands and the 4th of July All American festival in 10th Street plaza which starts at 11am following the parade and runs until 3pm.

Take the outdoors inside to keep cool! Starting July 6th, Center Stage Conservatory presents The Wolves a play about a high school girls’ soccer team. The all-female cast & production ensemble takes you through the motions of a team’s warm up and their portrayal of the dramatics of living in teenage girldom. The play carries a PG-13 rating due to language. Don’t miss out on this #femalestrong play. The production runs through July 22nd. Tickets: $15 / $10 for students. www.centerstagemodesto.com

If the outdoors call to you, then take a trip into another world and experience the 2nd Annual Modesto Celtic and Fantasy Renaissance Faire on July 7th at Graceda Park. This family friendly free event features knights, craftsmen & artisans, performers, music and more. Cosplay & Larping costumes are welcomed. This is a free event. www.steamhousecoffeeco.com/

Get Chill with some slam poetry. The same people that bring you the area’s most popular annual Poetry Slam, The ILL LIST present the summertime flavor that you didn’t know you were craving, THE CHILL LIST. On July 21st, come out and experience the country’s best poetry slam “teams” competing for a top prize. This is a free speech event. Tickets: $20-35. Doors: 6:30pm. Show:7:30pm. www.thestate.org

The time warp is back again! The State Theater presents The Rocky Horror Picture Show on July 28th and it’s going to be a night to remember. This showing offers a twist on the classic film by encouraging the audience to dress up, participate and sing-a-long to the movie. It’s a chance to let your zaniness run wild & free. Tickets: $12.
