It’s a lovely spring day filled with sprinkles of rain, and rays of sunshine in Downtown Modesto. As Ms. M gets the final punch on her Preservation Coffee card and her free drink, she realizes it doesn’t matter if you’re a townie or a visiting out-of-towner: getting a deal when it comes to activities, entertainment or eating always feels like a win. April is no different and she’s rounded up some fun & frugal things to do around town. There’s something here for everyone… But at a costly price? No way!

March  showers brought April plants and flowers! On April 1st, MJC Environmental Horticulture department invites all to their 21st Annual Plant Sale on East Campus. From 8am-4:30pm come out and pick select the most delightful blooms among the spring colors, a houseplant or shrub or pick from their huge selection of tomato and pepper varieties! 1324 Coldwell Ave. Info: 209-575-6200

Never underestimate the power of positivity! On April 6th on MJC West Campus the Honorable Ruben Villalobos, Stanislaus County Superior Court Judge, closes out the MJC Positive People Speaker Series. The speaker series is a free public presentation that has featured local community members who have overcome challenges to achieve their goals. The event will be at 6pm in the Mary Stuart Rogers Student Learning Center. All are encouraged to come out and hear this inspirational story. Let’s Play Ball! It’s opening day for the Modesto Nuts at John Thurman Field on April 13th! The Nuts take on the Lancaster Jethawks at 7:05pm. Gates open at 5:30pm where the family fun begins with face painting, balloon art, caricature artists and more before the game. Get in touch with the earthy side of your soul and have a good time at the 28th Annual Earth Day Festival on April 22nd in Graceda Park. The free popular event is all day filled with green education helping everyone learn more about the environment and more. The streets are alive with the sound of music! April 28th kicks off the 2017 Season of Music in the Plaza with Joe Barretta. Every Friday evening through September from 7-9pm you can enjoy the great vibes of an outdoor concert in Modesto’s 10th Street Plaza for free.
