May is one of those months that feels like a dream. The warmer weather makes it seems is as if you are looking through rose-colored glasses and the world is brand new. The birds are out sharing their songs, everything from flowers to trees is in full bloom and the weather hints ahead to upcoming summer months. Since the universe has conspired to get everyone out of the house, Ms. M has been enjoy much of the spring season outdoors. The ideal game plan for May includes having fun without dropping too many dimes.
Music in the Plaza has returned and it is a great way to start your month. Music events in downtown Modesto every Friday at 7 p.m. and continue well into the summer and fall months. A special presentation of the Music in the Plaza free music series happens on May 4th with Star Wars Day Celebration. Head down to Downtown Modesto’s 10th Street plaza and you will be immersed in Star Wars themed activities and music at 5:00pm. Disney fans can get their fix with a fun Saturday morning event. The State Theatre presents their series Donuts, Coffee and Cartoons on May 7th, featuring the film Cinderella. This is a great bit of nostalgia and a treat for all ages and family friendly. The film starts at 10a.m. with doors opening at 9a.m. Tickets are $5 and available for purchase online or at the box office. Spiritual nourishment can be beneficial for the mind, body and soul. The Nourishment for the Soul Wellness Center hosts their monthly open house free event from 10am-2pm on May 9th. Additionally the center hosts many spiritual and energy healing, and meet-up style events where you can meet like-minded people or learn more. It is the season for music! After a year off and a year with the COVID inspired Couchfest event, one of the area’s favorite events, Modesto Area Porchfest is back! The local area event hosts a lot of music talent from Noon to 5p.m. on May 22nd. The all ages free event is a collection of porch parties located in the La Loma, College and Downtown Modesto areas.
