Roaring into 2020!
Welcome to the New Year and now you’re seeing 20/20 and it’s a fabulous time to look at the big picture. A century ago it was the roaring 20s and Ms. M may not be the best judge but she thinks there’s plenty of roaring to be had in the new year without completely making a mess of that new budget. Let’s get ready to roar!
Enjoy the charm of the new year with a bit of Scottish music! On January 4th, the Saint Andrew’s Society of Modesto presents the 5th Annual Piping at the Mchenry Mansion contest. For those who love all things Jane Austen, Modesto’s first JaneCon weekend kicks off January 10th and runs through the 12th. Centered around Jonathan Dove’s opera, Mansfield Park, presented by Opera Modesto at the State theater the JaneCon welcomes a wide array of workshops, events and speakers, including a Champagne Tea and Jane Austen Films. Break up the month with a little blues. Drop in at the Moon & Sixpence Music and Art House on January 18th for the sultry sounds of Diana Rein. She’s been compared vocally and musically to Bonnie Raitt and Steve Ray Vaughn and on currently touring in support of her third album “Queen of My Castle” which is receiving great acclaim. Singer, instrumentalist and composer Hannah Jane Kile opens for Diana . Tickets:$15.
Start your new year with learning. Science Saturday’s at the Great Valley Museum start on January 25th at it’s a great way for children and all ages to have fun with science. The last Saturday of every month GVM hosts it’s monthly science day for free with museum admission. From 12pm to 1pm discover all the fascinating things that the world and universe has to offer and participate in a hands on activity with a take home project.
