BargainView: Start the New Year!

The start of the New Year brings new things to do. The season for trying new things never ends. Luckily, most things continue on, so that we can give them a go. Ms M. is currently sipping on a cup of Earl Grey while browsing the class offerings for Modesto Junior College’s Community Education this spring at www.mjc4life.org. She knows it is never too late to learn a new skill or take up a new hobby and is easy to sign up for. Nonetheless, the New Year is a great time for everyone to try something out. Here are some things to try out that will be a bargain.
Yoga is a great way to get to know your body and practicing Kirtan is a tradition that can still the mind and open the heart. Elevate Yoga is hosting an Evening with MahaShakti Music’s Tim “Tio” Lechuga for their First Friday Kirtan series on January 7th. This is the first event of the year for this monthly series at Elevate Community Yoga. While the event is donation based, members are encouraged to donate $15 and guest $20. For the poetry lovers that do miss live events, there are many such as Most Poetry Center that has shifted to Zoom. Although via Livestream, MOST invite everyone to attend the Second Tuesday Poetry reading. The January 11th event starts at 7 pm and is a free Zoom that will feature poets Dana Koster and Erin Rodoni. Comedy shows can provide enough laughs to put anyone in a good mood. If you are in the mood for laughs Central Valley Comedy Jam brings some of Los Angeles’s funniest comedians to town on January 19th at 8 pm. The show features Host Jack Assadourian, Paul Jairus, Anthony Stiriti, Will Burkart and a surprise guest. Presale tickets are $12/ $20 at the door. 950 10th Street. 95354. Listening to tango and watching a couple entwined while dancing to one is mesmerizing and impossible not to enjoy such a spectacular visual. The music is full of sensuality and passion that makes it irresistible and a favorite throughout the world. Tango Argentina brings their production to the Gallo Center for Arts on January 22nd. Eight dancers and a quartet of musicians will bring to life the music and visuals of the Tango and explore many of the elements that make this dance thrilling. 7:30 pm. Tickets start at $29.
