The Simple Joys
By Monica Barber

The fog of the day has yet to burn off entirely and there’s a few birds dancing in the trees. The day is fairly grey as Ms. M finds herself writing in Downtown Modesto. A smile crosses my face with the sight of a man and his wife walking their puppy. Every fiber of my being knows that this is one of the joys in life you take in without a worrying of trivial things. Life shouldn’t be an expensive treat to enjoy. Here’s a few ways to save a little with those you love this February…
An unforgettable evening of music is a lovely way to start your month and help to raise funds and awareness for a cause. On February 6th Café Deva presents A Night to Remember fundraising concert. The event features some of the area’s most celebrated female musicians to raise awareness for the Northern California Women’s Music Festival. Doors open at 5pm and tickets are $10. Lineup includes: Amy Obenski, Francesca Bavaro, Randy Mandy, LoveCore and Ruby Jaye Fradkin among more. Info: www.northerncaliforniawomensmusicfestival.com
Sometimes it’s best to let your inner animal run wild. And where else can you do that but in nature? Well if you can’t escape to the natural elements, then head over to the Great Valley Museum. The Museum is newly reopened with great exhibits to discover celebrating wildlife and science. Don’t miss out on Telescope nights with two planetarium showings! Now and then you want to retreat to the dark recesses of your house for some R&R but there’s not a better, darker place than a movie theater. If it’s been a while since you treated yourself to some eye candy then it’s time to head over out to see a movie at Brenden Theaters. Money shouldn’t be a problem with their matinee rates at $6 every day until 6pm. Don’t miss out and FOCUS in with the new Will Smith comedy premiering on February 27th. Reward yourself!
