February is a busy month. It marks the start of Black History Month, it heralds in the Lunar New Year, it encourages everyone to love a little on Valentine’s Day, there’s a groundhog and past presidents’ with holidays and this year there’s an extra day at the end. Ms. M isn’t reliving the same day over and over but love is already everywhere and spring is right around the corner in Downtown Modesto.. May your February arrive with love and things to do that won’t make you break open your piggy bank.
Start the month with one of Shakespeares most beloved plays, A Midsummer Night’s Dream! In February 2nd. Grace Davis High School Drama Club presents a unique and ethereal experience retelling of this timeless comedy. You’ll journey through moonlit forests, watch mischievous fairies weave spells and star crossed seeking solace. It will be a night of whimsical transformation that’s not to miss. Tickets: $15-$25. As you attempt to shake off the winter blues, step out for a walk and visit the Modesto Certified Farmers Market. Winter market stays open Saturdays and February 10th, the market will celebrate Mardi Gras at the market. The themed day will have a special treat for everyone that goes. There’s no way to go wrong on Valentine’s Day with going to see a movie. On Februtary 14th, the State Theatre presents the wonderful fantasy comedy that it is still on everyone’s mind, Barbie. The movie centers around Barbie’s journey to the real world with her favorite Ken in tow. The month comes to a graceful but rocking end with the area’s most popular annual tribute to the man in black, Johnny Cash. On February 24th, The Prospect Theater plays hosts to the Wrong Doers’ Band and myriad of their performer friends covering the songs of Cash, from deepest cuts to mainstream to crossovers.
