Big Blue Live – The Artists’ View
By Jim Christiansen
Five local artists participated in Big Blue Live! a painting exhibition of the Monterey Bay and its Marine Life. Tamara Keiper, Rhett Regina Owings, Barbara Gill Salerno,
Henrietta Sparkman and Cindy Wilbur, members of the Monterey Plein Air Painters Association, painted plein air along the Monterey Trail coast as part of this event. PBS and BBC Earth presented their documentary, BIG BLUE LIVE, a three-part LIVE television event showcasing marine life along America’s west coast at the Monterey Bay Aquarium, beginning August 31st.
In conjunction with the documentary, the Arts Council of Monterey County, Museum of Monterey, Aquarium and Monterey Bay Plein Air Painters collaborated to
bring this exhibition of original paintings featuring the beauty of Monterey Bay, its marine animals and ecosystem to the Museum of Monterey. The art works of Cindy Wilbur, Henrietta Sparkman, Rhett Regina Owings and Tamara Keiper are on display for the Big Blue Live! Exhibition at the Museum of Monterey, 5 Custom House Plaza, Monterey 93940. museumofmonterey.org/
