Haunting around Modesto
By the View Crew
Could it be that we will have some good haunting this season? It looks as if the spooks and treats will be out and about this year along with some good haunted movies and activities. I know that last year, our focus was on contact free and self serve trick or treat, but if we do things right, we could be getting the frights going again. The ViewCrew has been looking everywhere for things to do an visit as well as some places you just want to explore. Even thought some of the haunted houses aren’t back, there are plenty of places to get your spook on, or just enjoy the fall flavors, grab something that has pumpkin spice in it or just break open a bag of candy and treat yourself. So let’s check out some of the fall things where you can haunt or hangout and enjoy this October. Please make sure that you check www.modestoview.com before you go out in case some of these events have changes.
The State Theatre
The 87-year old State Theatre gets a little freaky this month with an amazing line up of creepy crawly cinema spectaculars. You really need to get your popcorn, settle in to a seat in the balcony and feast your eyes and ears to some for the scary classics. There is even a special Halloween night presentation. You will be so very afraid at this months’ fright nights.
Check these thrillers out with a special series of Alfred Hitchcock called Hitchtober.
Vertigo, Oct 1, Rear Window Oct 2, and The Rope Oct 3.
You can also check out family classics like Hocus Pocus (Oct 9) and Beetlejuice (Oct 22-24)and get the frights from The Cabin, Nightmare on Elm Street, and Army of Darkness and the all time scariest, the War of the Worlds on Oct 17.

Most Haunted Shop in Town
Before you step out to any haunted event, you must pay a visit to the DayDreams and Nightmares costume and makeup shop. Located on 7th St in a former Crematorium, there are spirits that make themselves known on a regular basis. Chill and Ghost seekers regularly this spot for paranormal activity and there have been a few TV shows featuring the shop. While you are there, make sure you select an amazing costume and have your makeup professionally done. We thank Dana Walters and her team for their creepy support of our community.
