Modesto Gets Creative with ModShop By Chris Murphy
There is something special about things that are made by hand. Handmade clothes, art, food, are all so special. My wife tells me that there is something special about people that repair, fix and create things by hand, and as an artist, she should know as she is so special. There is something magical and unique about hand made things. Each is slightly different, special and one of a kind. The Modesto area has so much talent when it comes to creating. Music, art, and food are some of the most popular, but there is a whole other world of daily functional things that should be a primary part of our community fabric. Pun intended.
Nearly a decade ago, there was event called Handborn that brought our local crafts people together. Now in 2013 there is a new event that will once again bring our talent together in a showcase for our community to see. ModShop will illuminate J Street between 12th and 13th in this inaugural year. There are dozens of local hand made crafts people and there will be be amazing food, music, treats and fun.
ModShop will run from 6 – 10 pm on November 30. ModShop has had a flurry of activity lately and artisan spaces are almost all filled! You see how much talent we have? Now all we need is you! Our art, music, dining and art scenes are only as good as the people that come out to purchase their wares. We can make Modesto a truly artsy community if we all rally and support it. Live music, art, crafts, locally owned restaurants and boutiques give Modesto character and will draw people from all over to enjoy it. So give Mod Shop a chance and let’s make it a big hit.
