BigView – SuperKarts are Coming!

The BigView SuperKarts are Coming to the Modesto Grand Prix!
By: Chris Murphy

When I was growing up in the 60s,  I always wanted a GoKart.

My friends had them, some were cobbled out of lawnmower motors and some were far more elaborate.  All of these memories have all come to life as Modesto plays host to one of the premier karting evens in the world where the most high tech speed SuperKarts will be lapping in downtown Modesto at speed over 100 MPH!

We live in a community that has loads of racing. Our classic car heritage goes back to Gene Winfield’s Century Toppers in the 1940s, jalopies, drag racing, custom and stock cars.  Our city rallied around Amgen Tour of California, Modesto Criterium, Modesto Marathon and now we are all whipped up over SuperKarts coming to the Modesto Grand Prix on Aug 1.

Downtown Modesto has become an arena.   Music festivals, sporting events, parades and now a SuperKart Grand Prix that will bring racers from all over the world.   This will truly be an international race.  Our course will be fast and this is a key qualifier and you will see world class racing and be up close with world class racers.

Downtown will be transformed in to a giant race track, compete with overhead walkways, surround sound, JumboTrons, pit areas, food alleys all nestled in to our downtown business area.    You will be able to enjoy food and drink in your favorite restaurant, venture in to the pits and see the action as the team work on their cars and the sound of kart racing and the thrill of victory will be in the air.   This will be an amazing weekend Modesto!

Lifestyle and Food Festival.
11th and I streets will be transformed into a giant festival, with racing booths, vendors, local organizations and so much more.   J street between 11th and 12th will be a Food Row and will have tasty treats of all kinds.   Beer and Wine will be served by the Modesto Kiwanis, Rotary and Lions clubs.   We are so lucky to have great volunteers in our community.

Volunteers
We need you.  Modesto is a place that is great for events like this because of you, our volunteers.   We need people to serve as corner marshals, traffic control, vendor support and so much more.   It is easy to volunteer and you will get a cool exclusive Modesto Grand Prix Volunteer shirt too.  This race will be a success thanks to our people.
You can sign up online here http://modestogp.com/volunteers/
You can also sign up as a group so you can all work together for your shift.

Bring your Friends!
This is only $10 per day.  That’s it.  Ten bucks for a full day of world class SuperKart racing. It will be a blast, so many places to watch, great food, great drink and of course great friends.
You can buy tickets at the Modesto Chamber of Commerce, Downtown Improvement District, Modesto Convention and Visitors Bureau, 10th St  Place (City Hall) and more.
Our recommendation is at the Gallo Center at 11th and I St or online at  www.galloarts.org
Each day tickets are required.
