ModShop – Modesto’s Holiday Season Opener
By Chris Murphy
One of Modesto’s best fall traditions has become the ModShop weekend, brought to life by the dynamic trip of Ruhi Sheikh, Kate Trompetter and Tricia Rosenow. You can do really creative small shopping at Mod Shop on Nov 24 from 5-9pm, located on J St between 10th and 13th St. Shoppers can browse over 100 booths featuring local artists selling art, home decor, clothing, jewelry, children’s clothes and toys, plants, pottery, vintage finds, and handcrafted foods. Enjoy food and drink at Deva Cafe, Concetta, Preservation Coffee, Ralston’s Goat, Tresetti’s, many other boutiques and more. Downtown will be bustling with live music sponsored by ModestoView and there will be much fun, for families and super crafty stuff. Support young entrepreneurs at Mini Mod Shop located at Mistlin Gallery, our community hub.

Singing Bear
I’m so excited to be at Mod Shop! It feels like these bibs are coming full circle; let me explain why. I’m Maggie High (née: Bankson) and I make baby bibs. My mom used to make these bibs and I helped her at craft shows/markets. Her health has since declined and when my baby started eating solids, I couldn’t use other bibs so I started making them. I’ve breathed new life into the bibs. I use contemporary fabrics, I revamped the edging, and I am very committed to and passionate about using only 100% natural materials. I served in the Peace Corps in Ethiopia and have traveled all over the world and have seen how plastic and synthetic waste can affect the environment, especially in places where trash pick up doesn’t happen. I believe that we, in developed nations especially, need to do all we can to help protect our environment.

Mama Tried & CO.
Selena Shuman
” Stained Glass started out as a creative outlet, grew into an obsession, and shortly became Mama Tried & CO. It started in October of 2017, when we first brought our creations to DoMo First Friday Market, several months after I built it into a legitimate business, and now do what I love for a living. Something I couldn’t be more thankful for, or could have done without the support of Our community!”
