Tis the Season to Celebrate
The weekend after Thanksgiving when the leaves turn and the excitement in the air turns festive. Whether is it the holiday parties, the new snow on the ground or the anticipation of winter break, there is just a cool feeling in the air. We are getting ready for Warren Miller Ski films, The Ill List and of course the festive nights of Rockin’ Holiday and the excitement of Modesto on Ice, ugly sweaters and spiked hot cocoa with family and friends makes it all special. There is so much happening and a million places to be, so we are to help.

Apres Skate
A night on the town means a night on the town. If you are going to get all spiffed up to head downtown to go ice skating, you need to think about what you are doing to do before, especially after skating. This is what we call Aprés Skate. You had a great time, skated singles and doubles, and now it is time to relax, with a special holiday cocktail, and enjoy downtown Modesto. Right around the corner from Modesto on Ice is our own Rockin’ Holiday, were you can meet up with Rockin’ Santa and experience the Rockin’ Snow and the Rockin’ Tree. You can catch a movie at the Brenden Theatres in the new comfy recliners after a nice dinner at Fuzio, Ralston’s Goat or Graffiti Dogs. You can walk down 11th St and find so many tasty options, or walk over to the Gallo Center, Prospect Theatre or The State Theatre for a show. If you are skating late, you just might want a nice nightcap with friends and Uber home. Don’t forget, there is live music every Thursday, Friday and Saturday at the Rockin North Pole Stage in 10th St Plaza. No matter what, spend the day, or the evening in downtown and find something new to do.

12 Days of Star Wars
Modesto is the birthplace of George Lucas and the home of Star Wars, so it is only fitting that we have our own special version of the 12 Days of Christmas. You know the tune so clip out and save this special #ModestoUSA version of this loved seasonal song. Get your droids, jump on the Millennium Falcon and start singing.

Amazing Holiday Performances
There are some shows that you just can’t miss this during the holiday season. The Central West Ballet production of the Nutcracker is a rite of passage for any dancer in our area and this is a great Christmas performance that gets you in the spirit and there are some good matinee shows. One of the biggest shows to hit Modesto has been the Brian Setzer Christmas Rocks Tour on the 20th and the Dave Koz Christmas on the 21st. There are some other really good shows at the Gallo Center. Giving and Believing
I believe. Really. I believe in the spirit of giving and fellowship for the Holidays, and I confess, I never stopped believing in Santa Claus. This probably explains a lot about why we wanted to decorate downtown along with our own house. We want to spread the holiday cheer as much as possible and invite everyone to enjoy a Classic Downtown Modesto and experience Rockin’ Holiday and all that downtown has to offer.

But in this spirit of giving, it is always a goal to find something unique and special for your friends and family and above all, something local that means something and carries a special message. There are no shortage of options this season and we even have a special 12 Days of Christmas deal that you can check out on page 18. All you have to do is take your entry to Rockin’ Holiday on December 22.

Giving Local
Let’s check out some special things that come from right here in our area. Here are a couple of our faves.
