BikeView By the ViewCrew Modesto has all the makings of a great bicycle city. We have a centrally located downtown and it is only about 5 mile radius to get to just about anywhere in town. Our biggest hill climb are the overpasses and our weather may get warm in the summer, but it is not really humid. We can become a really great cycling city. We need to make bikes a priority and we need to continue to make it easy to ride bikes and park bikes in town.
Over the last year, you have seen new bike lanes marked out, new downtown parklets with bike parking, a new design district with bike parking as a feature and more projects are on the way. There are fixie bikes all over town and the Stanislaus County bike club has many rides and the Dry Creek Coalition has off road rides and trail maintenance projects. The Virginia Corridor and the Hetch Hetchy and Mensinger trails are well used by both recreational and competitive cyclists. We recommend that you dust off your bike, get a good helmet and do a new kind of exploring in Modesto. The more cyclists we have, the better the conditions will be and there will be one less car on the road. We can do it.
