BluesView – February

Hello everybody! It’s a leap year, so that means we have one extra day to get out and listen to some good music. I want to say thank you to everyone who came out to either of our CD release parties. Your support is greatly appreciated!

Getting things started with a bang on Feb 5th, our good friend John Clifton will be opening for Tommy Castro down in Fresno at the Fulton 55. Then on the 13th, local favorites Blues Box Bayou Band will be up at Black Oak Casino for a Zydeco dance party.

Also on the 13th is the annual Johnny Cash Birthday Bash and fundraiser for the Prospect Theater. This year as always, it is hosted by the Wrong Doers and featuring many other local singers and slingers. This show is always on my top parties of the year list.

On the 14th, you have a couple of options for great music you can catch Rob Hill Band over at Deva for breakfast, and then swing over to the Twisted Pig and catch Patty Davis.

Now on the 17th, it’s the don’t-miss-show of the month. We have Charlie Musselwhite and the North Mississippi Allstars at the Gallo Center. Charlie Musselwhite’s career goes all the way back to the heyday of Chicago Blues. He was one of the first white performers to be accepted by the black artists and has the resume to prove it. As for the North Mississippi Allstars: if you love blues or rock or specifically hill country blues this is the band for you. Their music is all about feeling, groove and dynamics. They come from a part of the country where this music is bread and butter and they love bread and butter. I mean, I can’t say enough about how much this stuff speaks to me. Soul isn’t a strong enough word for it.

Black Oak Casino also has some shows coming up: On the 19th Lee Rocker from the Stray Cats will be performing and on the 27th Lydia Pense and Cold Blood.

Ok, here it is your bonus music day line-up: February 28th Patty Davis will be serving up some great tunes with your Sunday breakfast at Deva Cafe.

That’s all for this month folks. I hope to see you out at a show.
