BluesView: Summertime Blues

By Earl Matthews

Hello everyone, the dog days of summer are here again, and for some crazy reason, that means there is a ton of fun stuff going on. In fact, there is so much to do that I hope you look at the calendar because I don’t have room to talk about it all, so I am just going to give you the highlights.

Kicking things off with a bang is Rob Hill making his West Side Theater debut on the 3rd. Rob calls his music Jazzy Blue but, I would call it SOUL music. His brings so much energy and leaves it all on the stage for you. So don’t miss this one.

The Hotel Leger is continuing their Summer Blues Series this month and through September. Every Sunday afternoon, with some great acts including yours truly with the Cryin’ Shame.

On the 10th you have to check out the Blues and Brews fest at Hutchins Street Square in Lodi. This year Featuring a great lineup including Shad Harris and the Groovinators and Jeramy Norris and the Dangerous Mood as well as several other acts you won’t want to miss.

On the 12th you can see Gary Gervase and Kickstart Blues at Stewart & Jasper’s in Mchenry Village for an Alzheimer’s fundraiser. Great band and a great cause. That starts at 4 and then you can head straight over to the Barkin Dog to catch the Bourbon Street Blues Band later in the evening.

On the 17th you have a few good options but, I’m going to recommend you head over to see Bill Clifton’s Chicken and Whiskey Band at Valley Brewing in Stockton. Bill is a founding member of the MAMA award-winning band the MOFO Party Band and one hell of a player. This concert series is a ton of fun, and I’m sure you will have a blast.

I will be back at St’ Stan’s on the 22nd with the Poorhouse Millionaires hosting my monthly jam. The last few months have been great, so if you like blues, it’s a great way to see us all at once.

The DB Project is back at it raising money to provide Shoes to kids in need with a show they are calling Bikes and Blues for Shoes at Mitchell’s Modesto Harley Davidson. This show is featuring Patty Castillo-Davis Band and Gary Gervase and the Kickstart Blues Band, and it runs from 10 am to 2 pm. DB Project is an excellent local charity and one that is worth supporting 100%.

As always friends don’t forget every Thursday you can check out David Dow’s Open Jam at the Barking Dog, or you can be a part of the show with Jeramy Norris and the Dangerous Mood at Stockton’s Garlic Brother for the Blues Jam. I hope to see you guys out at a show.
