BrewView: Liquid Autumn at Kimoto Sake and Sushi
by Brandilyn Brown and Christopher Mitchell
Ah, finally, it’s fall! California is cooling down, leaves are falling, and we are back to a two-day-a-week watering schedule (for those of us that water at all!). If you are sick of literally pumpkin spice flavored everything, we have the perfect drink for you.
Brandon Dodge, owner and head bartender of Kimoto Sake & Sushi, Modesto’s Japanese pub, invented a special cocktail to commemorate the best season of all. It’s aptly named the “Tsukimi” after the Japanese Fall Festival. Made with 12-year Suntory Yamazaki whiskey, apple cider, a dash of cinnamon, and garnished with a luscious red apple skin, it’s the best fall drink we’ve ever had. It was so delicious we had to have two! Order it all month long at your local izakaya (“stay in sake shop”), enjoying every sip while it lasts.
