Building Imagination Center Announces New Directions for Upcoming Year
Changes are afoot at the Building Imagination Center (BIC). You may have noticed the moving signs in our window. Beginning this Fall and continuing throughout the coming year, BIC will expand and enhance the video art center activities started in Modesto.
BIC will be working with new movie makers in the area, as well as alumni and graduate movie makers, to promote video production in Modesto through classes and student projects at CSU Stanislaus. The next project scheduled is the filming of the Modesto International Architecture Festival this September. Additionally, BIC will continue filming events in downtown Modesto, both as learning experiences and as the creation of inexpensive videos for community groups.
BIC, through its video exhibition activities and as an active member of the City of Modesto’s Downtown Promotions Committee, will continue to help bring about the revitalization of downtown Modesto through creative placemaking. Now, as the official resident movie making company at the non-profit State Theatre, we will be having biannual screenings and filmmaker discussions of locally made movies in the State Theatre over the next year. Our first film festival is planned for December 5, 2013, and we will be co-hosting it with our partner, the Modesto Art Museum. Our on-going screenings will now be integrated into Gallery 909, the university’s visual art gallery, located just one block from our previous venue.
A new community advisory committee for the promotion of video making and exhibition in downtown Modesto is being created, and we are in the process of forming a Filmmaker Social Club, which will meet monthly in downtown Modesto. Email us online (contact@buildingimagination.com
Our formal residency program in Modesto is over, but our work with the Central Valley community groups for the creation and exhibition of videos will continue. BIC will be using a new venue in Turlock for both video production and exhibition to augment the project started in Modesto.
We at the Building Imagination Center will be here to support the Modesto community in the coming year. If your community group is interested in working with us, please contact us.
And, we would like to thank the Modesto community for the support it has given us throughout the past year.
Thank you.
