Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery Presents “Home for the Holidays”

 

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery presents “Home for the Holidays” members show November 17 – December 23. The show will be featuring an All Media Art – Jewelry-Pottery-Textiles and More – an abundance of unique gift items.

Gallery hours are 11:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday-Friday; noon-4 p.m. Saturday. 1015 J Street, Downtown Modesto. The gallery Gift Shop offers handcrafted items by local artisans. Find the perfect keepsake or gift while enjoying a unique adventure in shopping for the unusual.

The Mistlin Gallery is run by the Central California Art Association, a non-profit volunteer organization dedicated to supporting regional artists, art education, and art activities.

 

Figure Drawing Wednesday, December 2, 7-9 p.m.

Weekly drop in, non-instructional drawing from the nude figure. Poses range from 30 seconds to 20 minutes. $10, no reservations required. Bring your medium of choice and an easel. Tables are available.

First Saturday, Stories and Art Saturday, December 5, 1-3 p.m.

Winter themed print making to go along with the picture book “Under the Snow” by Melissa Stewart. Take home a set of multi-color greeting cards.

Each Saturday will feature a different picture book and related art project. Participants will use a variety of mediums and techniques to explore an art concept, creating their own piece to take home. All ages welcome. Children under 5 must be accompanied by an adult.

January 5 through February 4

The Central California Art Association at the Mistlin Gallery presents Into the Void: Art of the Richard Serros Studio

This large two venue retrospective exhibition, shown both at the Modesto Junior College Art Gallery and the Mistlin Gallery simultaneously during the month of January 2016 presents the painting, drawings and prints of Modesto Junior College art professor Richard David Serros. On exhibit will be a selection of his major works produced over the past forty years and culminates with his sabbatical production from June 2014 to the present. The works range is styles from the realist to abstract to the non-objective. The show will also feature the works of two of his MJC students; Leo Bratenus and Katinka van Dyk, who have been working in his studio over the past two years under his guidance. The MJC show opens on January 19 (open Monday through Thursday 10:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.) through February 4 and at the Mistlin Gallery show runs from January 5 to 29 (open 11:00 to 5:00 p.m.).

The reception for the MJC venue will be January 19 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. while the Mistlin Gallery reception will be part of the Third Thursday Art Walk on January 21 from 5:30 to 9:00 p.m. Refreshments will be served at both events and many works will be for sale.

Storytelling Quilts Saturday Jan 2, 1:00 – 3:00 p.m.

Based on the book “Tar Beach” by Faith Ringgold,

We’ll make quilt squares and patterns that tell a story.

The “Into the Void: Art of the Richard Serros Studio exhibit’s public reception is during the Downtown Modesto Third Thursday Art Walk, January 21; from 5 to 9 p.m. Music and Refreshments will be available during the Art Walk.

Seeking Young@Art Award Sponsors

Mistlin’s annual student show, Young@Art is coming up quickly! We are seeking award sponsorships from businesses or individuals. Awards will go directly to students in the form of ribbons and gift cards to a local art store. Two Best of Show awards will be given, one for ages under 11, and the other for ages 12-18. There are 11 categories, each with first, second and third place awards. Honorable mentions will be made with a ribbon, but no monetary prize. Please support our young artists at one of the following levels:

Best of Show — $100

First Place in Category — $50

Second Place in Category — $30

Third Place in Category — $15

 

The categories are as follows:

1 – Ages 1 – 4 works on paper

2 – Ages 5 – 7 works on paper

3 – Ages 8 – 10 works on paper

4 – Sculpture – Ages 1 – 10
