Cold Weather Hot Music

Cold Weather, Hot Music.
By Patty Castillo Davis

The Latin word for January means door since January is the door to the new year and opening to new beginnings.
Begin 2018 like this-resolve to actively support your favorite local venues.
Last year saw the dissolution of places to create art. Put your money where your mouth is literally. Saying you “love this place” does not keep the doors open. It’s like that. It’s simple as that. SAVE OUR VENUES.

Our local music family is very close knit and consistently comes together to help its community and create awareness to social issues.
This month you can find musical performances enhanced with the charity of giving and the spirit of love. Troy Franey is a young artist who is starting his music career on a positive plane by writing mindful songs and embracing opportunities that not only showcase his talent but his compassion for others. January 5, Franey is hosting a show that will support the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention in Merced at Lens 360 featuring the Bed Heads.  and supported by the busiest crew of singer-songwriters you’ll ever know. Showtime is 6 pm.

Six-time GRAMMY nominated Folk Singer-Songwriter Jim McCutcheon will perform a benefit concert for the Modesto Peace/Life Center at the Modesto Church of the Brethren on January 9 at 7:30. Patty Castillo Davis and David Rogers will open the evening’s program.
The Barking Dog will be host to Music for the Soul on January 13, a kooky blend of alternate, Jazz, Blues and R & B with Kayla Just and friends. The show begins at 6, gate fee is $5.

Me & You-the Duo bring their acoustic blend to Durst Winery and Estate in Acampo on January 21 from 1-5pm.
Let the new year find you in a creative place, thinking artfully and mindfully pursuing beauty and culture where you stand. Employ this thinking, “If I don’t use it, I will lose it.” The Modesto area has many choices every night of the week, from intimate showcases at Moon and Sixpence to spectacular grandeur at the Gallo Center for the Arts.
