Costume Halloween Events at Public Libraries

Costumed Halloween events to take place at Stanislaus County Libraries

Local libraries to give community members fun, free options for celebrating the Halloween season 

Several Stanislaus County Libraries are giving children and their families an opportunity to dress up as their favorite characters as part of their Halloween celebrations this October, beginning with the Turlock Library’s Halloween Story Times on Thursday, Oct. 25 at 10 a.m. and 11 a.m. Each Story Time will be followed by a special craft, and the Friends of the Turlock Library’s Trick-or-Treat Parade. The Turlock Library is located at 550 Minaret Ave. For more information, please contact the library supervisor, Diane Bartlett, at 209-664-8100. 

The Modesto Library will begin their costumed celebrations on Saturday, Sept. 27 with a “not too spooky” Bilingual Story Time at 10:15 a.m. Later that day at 1 p.m., teens and adults are invited to join in the cosplaying fun with a Halloween Jeopardy event, featuring food and prizes. Upstairs in the Children’s Room, independent readers up to age 12 can drop by to read to costumed certified therapy dogs from 2 to 4 p.m. that same day. Halloween Story Times will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 6:15 p.m. and Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 10:15 a.m. Following Story Time on Oct. 31, the Friends of the Modesto Library will lead a parade through the library to gather treats. The Nick W. Blom Salida Regional Library Halloween Story Time will take place on Saturday, Oct. 27 at 1 p.m. Children can enjoy a sweet treat and a parade through the library following Story Time. This program is sponsored by the Friends of the Salida Library. Salida Library is located at 4835 Sisk Road. A Halloween Carnival will be held at the Empire Library on Tuesday, Oct. 30 at 3:30 p.m. Children of all ages can enjoy an afternoon playing carnival-style games. Popcorn and lemonade will be provided. The Empire Library is located at 18 South Abbie. For more information, please call the library supervisor, Diane Ramirez, at 209-524-5505. 

The Patterson Library will throw a Halloween Bash on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. The event will feature a scavenger hunt for a chance to win a prize, as well as a rock monster painting craft, and yummy treats while supplies last. The Patterson Library is located at 46 North Salado. For more information, please call the library supervisor, Xia Thao, at 209-892-6473. 

Children can enjoy the Riverbank Library’s “Halloween Fun” event on Wednesday, Oct. 31 at 3:30 p.m. Participants can make black cats and wiggly legged spiders, and will have an opportunity to spell out their names in the library’s spider web. The Riverbank Library is located at 3442 Santa Fe St. For more information, please call the library supervisor, Victoria Holt, at 209-869-7008. 

Costumes are encouraged, but not required, to participate in these free events. Participants interested in attending in costume are asked to wear non-scary costumes.
