David Bowie 1947-2016

R.I.P David Bowie

Planet Earth is blue and there’s nothing I can do.

So shocked to learn that David Bowie has died after a battle with cancer. I have been a fan of Bowie’s since I bought the single Space Oddity back in the early 70’s at Records By Twilight in McHenry Village. The amazing menu of music that was delivered by Bowie from Ziggy, Aladdin Sane, Thin White Duke, collaborations with John Lennon for Fame, Changes, Heroes, and then his super commercial Let’s Dance phase where he headlined coliseums around the world, Tin Machine and his new album that rips, David Bowie has always pushed the boundaries and made music and the music industry better. We will miss David Bowie.

Crazy that I had just posted the original video for Space Oddity from the his promotional film “Love You Till Tuesday” on Friday for#Flashbackfriday and wow, it is a very different Monday. For some reason, as I cleaned up our Christmas decorations this weekend, I listened to all of the different cover versions of this song, from Powerman 5000 to the Yale Glee Club.

Here is the video of the very first version of Space Oddity from 1969 as a short film. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Dg25Eik0WIw
