It’s “Día” time again! This year’s Día de los Niños/Día de los Libros/Children’s Book Day, also known as “Día” for short, will be held on Saturday, April 19, from 10 – 1 pm. This event is a celebration of children, families and reading that culminates in this annual springtime celebration. It brings families together and emphasizes the importance of literacy for every child, regardless of their linguistic or cultural background.
The Modesto Library Teen & Children’s Department is in need of 3 – 7 volunteers to staff the upcoming Día event from 9:30 am -12:30 pm on April 19, at the Gallo Center Music Garden at 1000 I Street. These volunteers are needed to help out at the craft and information tables. If you are a “Friend of the Modesto Library”, over 16 years old and would like to join up with the multitudes of local children for a morning of fun and books, please contact “Día’s” event lead, Angelica Ruiz Mate, at amate@stanlibrary.org<mailto:amate@stanlibrary.org>. Volunteer slots will be filled in the order in which respondents reply. If you are interested in helping on the day of the program but cannot work an entire shift, please let Angelica know so that she can make special arrangements for you. She will send out an email to confirm all volunteers along with any additional directions about a week before the event.
Note: If you would like to participate in the upcoming “Dia” event but are unable to participate on April 19, the Modesto Teen & Children’s Dept. also has some last-minute “Dia” craft prep such as putting together “pack and Go” bags, that needs to be done ahead of time any time between 10-4 on Mon., Mar. 31, If you would like to help out with “Dia“ prep on Mar. 31, contact Angelica Ruiz Mate at your earliest convenience.
The Friends of the Modesto Library thank you for your continued support of the Modesto Library.
Sincerely,
Marilyn Drew, FOML Volunteer Coordinator
