Modesto has been the source of some great music. The Modesto music scene has been the launch pad for many successful artists and continues to be place for new artist to develop, and thanks to all of the local restaurants and bars that are very friendly to live music, the quality keeps getting better and better. Here we look back at some of the great songs that have come out of the Modesto music scene.
Pretty – Transport
This is one of my favorite songs EVER. My band Third Party was able to cover this song at a Christmas gig at Deva years ago and Transport was there. It was so cool. This is a good driving beat, amazing chorus, cool effects swirling and deserves replay after replay. Matt Cox and Jason rivers still play locally and Nathan Penrose lives back east and stays in touch with Modesto on Facebook.
Got 2Girlfriends – UVR
This was high energy music and was fun live. UVR writes catchy and fun songs and lit up the shows they played. They had the honor of closing the show for Avril Lavigne when she played at the State Theatre. Crazy show. Huge opening gig for Flying Blind at John Thurman and they have toured all over the USA and followed this song up with Hollywood and many others. We need more catchy music like this that sends you humming and whistling the tunes as you leave the gig.
Too Bad You – Megan Slankard
Megan Slankard goes electric! Megan broke through with this song, lots of national radio airplay and it was a flat out great song. She shows up at the Fat Cat after her “What not to wear” episode, and straps on an electric guitar and the rest is national tour history. As I write this, she is gigging in NYC. How cool huh? Her hits keep on coming and she is a regular on Pandora and XM stations.
