Fair Fun
By Chris Murphy
The fun starts on July 12 for 10 action-packed days. The 108 year old award-winning Stanislaus County Fair is right in the middle of our year and during July, is the biggest thing going on. From the fun rides on the midway, to the deep fried foods to the farm animals on display to the great live music performances, there is something for everyone. Of course, there are healthy food options, but above all, it is a great time in our community where everyone can hang out. Don’t miss the Kid’s Club with a special Passport Kids area by SkyTrek. You can rock with free celebrity concerts included with Fair admission, a total of three stages of live entertainment, upwards of 30,000 local exhibits and over 1,750 animals.
New this year are free bus rides on Turlock Transit fixed routes from July 1-31, 2019, to include the run of the Fair. Turlock Transit will join the other three transit systems in Stanislaus County (CAT, MAX, and StaRT) to provide free rides on all fixed routes as part of a special, grant-funded promotion. You won’t want to miss Ryan Hammond, 2019 American Idol Contestant and Modesto native, perform the National Anthem at the Destruction Derby event on Monday, July 15th at 6:30 p.m. There is even a maritime exhibit with live Stingrays!
As we celebrate our freedom and support our military from today’s War on Terror going back to World War II, including those who have died, while serving the United States, you can experience the Remember the Fallen Exhibit. Of course, you will love all of the rides on the midway and so much more. Also important is the “empowHER Lounge”, dedicated to inspiring girls 16 and older to not only empower themselves, but also those around them.
PS. My band Third Party will be playing the community Stage on Opening Night. Please stop up and rock with us.

MAMA at the Fair
The Modesto Area Music Association is hard at work making sure the talented musicians of our area get showcased as much as possible. Middagh Goodwin has teamed up with the Stanislaus County Fair to create a fantastic schedule of music this season for the Center Stage. Don’t miss all the local talent in between your rides and deep fried Twinkies. Fair food and fair music, great combo.
