Falling Into Stanislaus Arts

Falling into Stanislaus Arts
By Jim Christiansen

It is October, and as usual, it is my birthday month. A lot is going forward in the art scene. I will complete seven decades on the same date as the Third Thursday Art Walk, October 17. I will host an Open Studio at 212 Olive on the alley on October 19 and 20, as I have built up a lot of inventory in 70 years.

Downtown, I have one painting on display in the Stanislaus Arts Council Autumn Art Exhibition at their 1315 J Street gallery. That will end on October 11.  This is also the month of Halloween and Dia De Los Muertos. The latter will have a festival at 1010 Tenth Street on October 19. The Arts Council Dia De Los Muertos-themed show will open at Showtime Studios on October 16 and run to November 21. See that show during Art Walk and Showtime business hours at 1313 J Street.

DoMo walls’ new mural activities, which run from September 30 to October 4, will open the month. Artist Miss Teal will work at 906 16th Street, Best Western Motel. Mr.Toledo, aka Daniel, will work at 1115 15th Street at California Beauty College. Blake Reagan’s Art will be painted at 1414 L Street.

On October 11, Dragonfly Art for Life’s resident black cat, Bat Man, will host a paint party fundraiser for a local cat rescue from 6 to 9 p.m. Check in on their Wednesday and Thursday Night drawing classes.

At the Carnegie Arts Center in Turlock, the A.R.T Collab presents a multi-arts presentation of Raven About Poet for two nights, October 11 and 12.  Doors open at 6 PM for this family-friendly evening of mystery and macabre.  Tickets $20 admission performance.

I got to check in with Gerardo Alatorre and get information on the Cali Life market and T Spot Beauty Salon at 1609 Tully Road.  After a busy year at the new address, Cali Life is hosting their Grand Opening October 12th, 5 to 10 PM.  Ask to get on the Guest list, as parking a bit tight for event this size, but it is a creative space for tattoos, art, and has hosted other events as fundraisers for kids. @cali_life_market and @_the_t_spot

September Art Walk, I was at Peer Recovery Art Project and may be there October 17.  Talking to John Black, PRAP will serve wine and art at the McHenry Village Taste of the Valley event on October 11.  Over at the Kruse Lucas Gallery, 525 Tully Rd, plein air artist Carolyn Rosssman’s art is displayed through November.  Chella opened her Jewels III show in Oakdale at Gallery 132 N. 3rd Street.

“The Art of Hope” event for Cricket’s Hope Art Restores Kids fundraiser is October 24.  Tickets online at givebutter.com/artofhope2024.

As I write this column, I plan to go to The Brick grand opening and gallery night in Turlock and see what the new gallery, multi-arts creative space, is all about. Knight’s Ferry Art Studio presents “The Freak Show” on October 27.  My end of the month of monthly plans involves the Riverdance Farms Fall Pick and Gather Festival on November 2, 3, 9, and 10. If you have a busy schedule to keep track of, you might want to invest in a Space Cat or Coffee Cat Wall Calendar for 2025, Available online at www.coffeecatscalendar.com
