FW: FoodView – Health Local Eats

FoodView

ModestoView is all about the deliciousness of our local food. During this month, you can smell the tomatoes in the air, our farmer’s markets are loaded with fresh deliciousness, our local restaurants are so fortunate to be bringing that farm right to your fork. Friends, we have it good. The Modesto Certified Farmer’s Market is one of my regular stops, and if you are there on a Thursday and Saturday morning, you know it is a popular place where fresh veggies and fruits are beautiful and plentiful.

We love pretty much all kinds of food, and while I am not vegetarian or vegan, there are many in our community that are and for them, this healthy lifestyle is very important. But beyond this preference, I have learned that some vegan food is flat out tasty. You have heard about Beyond burgers and Impossible dogs, but how do they taste? Is it that farm to fork experience? If you aren’t vegan, will you like it? The answer is Yes! I was in Chicago at the Cubs game, and people were lined up getting Beyond Chicago Dogs, so you know it has to be good.

It can be confusing, but we will try to simplify and there is truly no right or wrong, just levels of commitment and personal preference. If you are fully Vegan you embrace the entire lifestyle, forgoing animal-based anything, from clothing, fabrics, furnishings, health care as well as food that have any animal in the materials or ingredients. There are many that are vegan and eat vegan food that just follow the food guidelines. Those that prefer the food, but not veganism across the board refer to themselves as having a plant-based diet or vegetarian.

Many people prefer the vegan diet, but supplement it with eggs and in some cases milk to meet nutritional goals and in many cases, milk and eggs are ethically produced. But in all the cases, anyone can order vegan or vegetarian and enjoy the food.
