FW: GoDowntown – DoMo Walls International Mural Challenge

Go Downtown Modesto
DoMo Walls
Downtown Modesto continues to be an amazing place to create and showcase public art. Peer Recovery’s John Black started the run with the ‘32 Deuce Coupe at 13th and J painted by Aaron Vickery a.k.a FASM. Chris Murphy joined in and they created Classic Community Murals to celebrate Modesto’s “Classic Graffiti” history teaming again with Vickery, legendary street rod airbrusher Tom “Giant” Nye, local artist Hocus and the world renowned Ella Yates and others, creating 7 more. Murals in MoTown, began a series based on the “Pillars of Modesto”, and launched with a beautiful mural of hometown hero Royal Robbins on Camp 4 and then the beautiful “Corazon Del Valle” mural on Dewz by Francisco Franco and a series of others.

The DoMo Walls International Challenge, hosted by Aaron Vickery has taken mural art to a new level. The 1st outing was created on the 100-foot wall of the Chartreuse Muse and has attracted a lot of visitors. This year, the International Challenge continues on the other side of the 10th St Alley with 7 more artists. Beginning Oct 2 – Oct 4 there will be a massive painting project with the unveiling on Saturday morning Oct 5 and a bike tour of many of the downtown murals. ModestoView has been a proud supporter of all of the mural projects in town and we believe that great public art that celebrates the good in our community will be something that attracts not only our own residents, but people from around the world. This is something that we can all do, that will move the needle on our desire to “Serve Civic Pride Daily”. We can do this in many ways.
