Holiday Giving
By Chris Murphy

Soroptimst Giving Tree Is Back
The Soroptimists of Modesto and Modesto Sunrise Rotary have been hosting a community giving tree since 1985. This is the 37th year. This year they return to Vintage Faire Mall with their Kiosk and the Giving Tree to make it easy to pick a need and sponsor a give that will help approximately 2500 children. There are so many needy children, and most are asking for warm clothes and shoes and wish for simple toys. These are the basics that will really help and will truly make a “Magical Christmas Morning”. Please visit daily until December 18 and shop for a child. Let’s all help bring children in need the gift of hope for the Holiday!

Please support the Giving Tree this year with your shopping and tax deductible donations. As always your contributions are important to help provide gifts for those children whose tags are not selected!

Our friends at Harvest Moon are hosting a Day of Dignity lunch and coffee for those in need on December 18, from 10 – 2. They are looking for support and contributions to help make this happen. Additionally, if you would like to donate any items that could help your community in need, please contact Jessie Wiggins or the Harvest Moon staff at 209-534-9723

Ring the Bell
The Salvation Army needs you. What I like about the Salvation Army is that over 85% of all funds donated go directly to programs that help people directly. This is a really high percentage and you know your donations are being cared for. If you have even two hours to spare, you can ring the bell to collect donations at a place that works for you, your family and friends if you want to do it as a group. End of year Donations
The taxman is coming soon and now is the time to plan on your end of year donations. There are so many local non-profits that need you, from our local theatres like the State and Prospect Theatre Project, and our charities that help those in need. You can also set up a fund at the Stanislaus Community Foundation where you can save on taxes and also help local area projects.

Legacy Giving
Use your will do dedicate local funds. Many of our local non-profits have received donations that were planned to be issued after the end of life. This is advance planning you can do and your estate lawyer can asssit you with legacy gifting and advantages now.
