Graffiti Summer Preview

Graffiti Summer PreView
By Chris Murphy

It is exciting that Graffiti Summer will be happening this 2021 season. As California just opened up on June 15 there was no way to get the shows, parades and the planning done needed to have a successful Graffiti Summer. This last month, we had showings of American Graffiti at the State and the Ceres Drive in, many car shows and it just goes to show, it is always Graffiti Summer in Modesto USA.

This August, we are going to have bright new Graffiti Summer plan. Visit Modesto has taken a big new step in coordinating many of the Graffiti Summer events around the event that stated it all, the North Modesto Kiwanis American Graffiti Festival. Visit Modesto is creating a new calendar and promotional plan with local, regional and national marketing to make sure the world knows about Modesto USA and our classic car heritage and George Lucas connections. Think about it, the entire world knows about Modesto from the movie American Graffiti. Modesto native George Lucas created the movie that has almost consumed Disney and all of these roads lead back to our city. Let’s make the best of it and take our place in global classic history.

The Legends of the Cruise are key to our history. The Modesto Historic Cruise Route and Walk of Fame was created to showcase and tell the stories of the people that inspired George Lucas to make the movie. We continue to tell those stories each and every day on and this year, we will be inducting new members of the Walk of Fame that lines the sidewalks of 10th Street Plaza. Each one of these legends played their part in Modesto’s classic car history. First inductee was George Lucas in 2013 and the 2021 Legends of the Cruise will be announced in the August ModestoView Magazine. Everyone is invited to the induction ceremony on Thursday August 19, at 6:30 pm during the Mid Valley Chevy Club Park and Shine. It will be a night of legends so please join us.
