ModestoView News Letter

Greetings Friends

Happy February.   It is the month of love and we love so much about what is happening here in our community.  The new ModestoView is out on the stands and in the mailboxes. It is loaded with LOVE! Puppy Love, Love for our community, Love for our history, Love for our diversity and Love of being engaged in our community. Thank you MJ Mangano for the beautiful Puppy Love cover, featuring rescued stray Truman the Norfolk Terrier with his bow tie and the the adorable Lucy the Lab as they enjoy a candlelight dinner in the Modesto Art Alley. Please check out this amazing issue and learn about and enjoy our community today and learn how to rescue a pet.

Tasha Wilson has done an amazing job highlighting Black History Month and some of our early settlers with the family of Sterling Fountain.  Our friend Carl Baggese has created a great look back at Modesto from 1900 – 1920 as we continue to celebrate the Modesto 150 each month.  We are taking on the roaring 20s next month so let me know if you have any info.

This weekend is some amazing music as our friend and national songwriting talent Joe Barretta puts on an all-star show Saturday night at the Gallo Center featuring his original music and other faves.  Don’t miss it.  You can laugh it up with Mystery Science Theatre 3000 at the Gallo Tuesday night and Trax on Wax celebrates 4 years and Blades and Bottles celebrates 1 year!  Then this weekend is the Radio Cavalcade at the Prospect and we can all glam up, walk the red carpet and watch the film awards at the State Theatre Sunday evening.  Such fun to be had.

If you haven’t read our February issue, click here to read it on any device www.modestoview.com/the-magazine
If you have cool history facts from the 20s until now, email me at chrism@modestoview.com

I look forward to seeing you all out and about and make sure you say hey.
– Chris Murphy

GreetingView: The Month of Love

By Chris Murphy

Greetings Friends
February is the month of Love. Well heck, every month should be the month of love right? But this is a really special month at our house. Not only is this the month of love, but it is also Heart Health Month and that means a lot to me. It is also special as both of our girls, Madison and Abigail were born in February, there is Valentine’s Day of course, but it is also about loving our community, our history, and even more important, loving the diversity that is Modesto as we celebrate Black History Month. ChefView: For Great Q it’s Doc’s

By Tasha Wilson

Hey Positive Peeps! It has been a while since I have shared a “Fun Food Ride” with you guys and it sure feels good to be back! I couldn’t have returned at a better time either, because I’m covering my favorite food subject: SOUL FOOD!

Nothing says, “YAAAAAAAS,” like some good old-fashioned Soul Food and nothing says Soul Food, like Modesto’s own Doc’s Q’ n’ Pit Shop! Doc’s restaurant has the best barbecue in Stanislaus County and with the business being open here locally for more than fifteen years – that has to tell you something! Read More

MAMAView: Rebirth

By Middagh Goodwin

It is a brand new year and what kind of resolutions as musicians, have you made? Are you going to play out more, record a new album or release a video for a new single? It is important to make plans and follow through to develop not just as an artist but your fanbase. Even mixing up the setlist you have been using for years, add a fun or unique cover or even better some new originals or old favorites that you have not played in a while. Read More
