ModestoView News Letter

Happy Almost  Valentines Day Friends

You know the ModestoView Crew loves Modesto and this is the week of love, it’s the month of Love and heck, as we celebrate Modesto150, the year of Modesto love.  I hope you have been able to check out our Feb issue and read Carl Baggese’s great essay about the 1900-1920.  Next month we are covering the 1920s so if you have any cool info, please let me know.

There are so many ideas and tips on how to have great Valentine’s Day, from gift ideas, ideas for couples, how to get married at the McHenry Mansion and even a great essay from Victoria Popoff about being single on Valentine’s Day.   There is so much to learn and ModestoView is here to help.   Our adorable cover dogs Lucy the Lab and Truman the Terrier lead the charge to encourage you to adopt a shelter pet.  Abigail Murphy writes a great story about how you can adopt a pet.

This is going to be a busy weekend as Sankofa Repertory Theatre presents Seven Guitars.  Do not miss this at the Gallo Center.   Also as we continue with Black History Month, please read Tasha Wilson’s great interview with Sterling Fountain and highlight the events to celebrate this month.

Do not miss out on the fun as there is a Onesie Pub Crawl this Saturday night in downtown.  So get your one-piece jammies out and head downtown Saturday night and have a blast enjoying Downtown Modesto. I hope to see you out and about and look forward to saying hello.
Have a great Modesto week,
Chris Murphy chrism@modestoview.com

Interview: Sterling Fountain

by Tasha Wilson

I should not be doing a simple article/interview on the history of the family lineage that Mrs. Sterling Fountain has here in Modesto, California. Instead, I should be writing a book about her life! Better yet, I should be drafting a movie script! Surely, her story would follow-up with an Oscar Award-winning film. Read More

Valentines for the Single People

By Victoria Popoff

When we were in elementary school, we’d exchange Valentine’s Day cards and treats to everyone in our class, giddy with excitement. It was a day to celebrate friendship, your peers and what innocent love looked like.

When we all got older, it morphed into a day to celebrate romantic love with the one we chose. It became more pressure to present your loved one with red roses, chocolates, gifts, and expensive dinners. Read More

Puppy Love Shelter Pets

By Abigail Murphy

We know that some of our closest loved ones on Valentine’s Day are the pets we celebrate and take care of every day! They love us unconditionally. If you are married, single or looking, Valentine’s Day is always good when you have your pets. As in real life, there is a match out there waiting for you, and in case, needing you. Read More
