ModestoView News Letter

Greetings Friends!

Greetings Friends!

We are in the most unusual May ever in Modesto where we are still sheltering at home and bit by bit will start to go outside.  We have been together apart, but one thing for sure is we are better when we “think together” and we lift each other up.  As we celebrate a virtual, PorchCouchfest,  May the 4th, enjoy Virtual Concerts on ModestoView nightly and enjoy our neighborhoods and newly opened parks, let’s stay in touch, virtually, or in person at 6 foot intervals. This is really how we do this, the simple things of just keeping distance, washing our hands and staying home when we are sick.   It’s not that hard, so let’s make it happen.  The rules will be changing a lot this month so stay tuned to ModestoView and we will try to keep you updated.  Fist and elbow bumps to you all and as we all know, the Sands of Modesto shift in mysterious ways.

The new ModestoView is out on the streets and in the mailboxes and if is loaded with great stuff. We will enjoy two days of home concerts with Couchfest and May the 4th will feature Star Wars Characters reading stories.   Tune in beginning Saturday at noon and click on the bands links at www.modestoporchfest.com  Click on www.facebook.com/maythefourthmodesto/ for the character stories.

It is really important that we stay connected to each other in positive ways.  Social media can be brutal out there, but you know that it is always positive at ModestoView.  You can count on it. If you can’t wait to pick up the issue, you can read it this very second at www.modestoview.com/the-magazine

I know that we will be gathering soon, but until then, let’s do it right, support our local restaurants and tip our musicians and when things open up, let’s live local.  We are stronger together #modestostrong
See you around sometime soon.

GeekView: May the Force Be With You

 By Middagh Goodwin

Modesto is known for many things but one thing that geeks around the world know it for is being the hometown of George Lucas the creator of Star Wars and American Graffiti. Modesto was the first city to make an official proclamation making May the 4th, Star Wars Day. We have celebrated every year since.
This year amongst the shelter in place order, we will dare to declare our love for all things Star Wars and will celebrate virtually using the technology only imagined in 1977 to share stories, we encourage everyone to dress up and have fun at home. Read More

During times like these, with the COVID-19 scare, we must ALL come together! Thankfully, Positive Peeps: We know that Modesto is a not only the city of “Water Wealth, Contentment Health,” but even more than that, we are truly, A CITY OF LOVE!
I know I am not the only one who has walked around holding onto a bit of fear within my heart, and plenty of worry on my mind. However, (I know from deep within my soul), when we stand together in love, we strengthen those who surround us. Read More

MAMAView: Life Sheltered in Place

By Middagh Goodwin

First off I can not believe no one messaged me about my profile picture in the magazine last month? It was a picture of Jack Black not me, a little April Fools prank or Easter egg if you will.

I am not sure about you but I have been enjoying all the videos and live streams by musicians not just in our area but from around the world. I even did a “Quarantine” episode of my radio show This is SKA on KCBP 95.5 FM, where all the music was from live video, zoom performances or recorded in separate locations and mixed while sheltered in place. Speaking of radio shows I am the host of Modesto Area Music Radio that airs on Monday nights at 5 pm on KCBP and I am always looking for new songs to debut, email music to mamarecords209@gmail.com for consideration. Last month I debut new songs by The Flowers, Us4Love, Gravel & Grace, Klooster, and more. Read More
