ModestoView Weekly Greeting

Wow, what a weekend!   Did you enjoy the American Graffiti Festival Cruise Parade Friday night? Did it take you back to the cruising days? The ViewCrew had so much fun and we celebrated the induction of the Legends of the Cruise, honoring Allen Grant, Don Wood, Paul Corgiat, Jack McCoy, Roy Farriester and the Ecurie Awol racing club.  So many great stories, music and we capped off a night of cruising with a Buddy Holly tribute.  Thanks to all of the hard work by the volunteers and the North Modesto Kiwanis Club.

We have so many great things about our community and Modesto is truly the Home of American Graffiti and our history paves the way for our future.  This week we keep our foot on the gas as we celebrate MoBand at the Night at the Bowl Fundraiser on Tuesday evening.  We have ONE fundraiser a year that helps keep MoBand Concerts in the park FREE to our community.   MoBand is Thursday, Music in the Plaza is Friday and it is Back to Graffiti at the Fruityard on Saturday and we wrap up with Father’s Day on Sunday.  How fun is this? So many great things to do for the whole family.

Also this Friday, Robert Ulrich’s new film Billy Boy will be part of a nationwide opening night on Friday.  You should check it out.

A big brass band, in a bandshell, in a park, with food, drink, wine, and fun sounds like the perfect evening. Add to this 3,000 of your best friends, blankets, and picnic baskets and you have a hall of fame slice of Americana, or Modestocana as we like to say. Read More

SongwriterView: Where were you in 62?

By Patty Castillo Davis

The answer to “Where Were You In ’62?” is the title of my column this month. My stoic, quiet Dad, Alonzo Castillo is the sole reason I am in BIG love with Linda Ronstadt today. He cultivated a musical environment from which I gleaned influences from Tex-Mex, Motown, Folk, Country, Mariachi and Rock to create my own original sound. Read More
