ModestoView News Letter

Greetings Friends!

Graffiti Summer is racing through Modesto at 100 MPH!  Wow.  Don’t fret as there are some great Graffiti Summer events this weekend and we are getting ready for MoBand Concert in the Park #4, themed “Rock of Ages” loaded with big classic hits.  Make sure your blanket is all ready to rock.  The classic car shows continue this weekend at the ModestoView All American Velvet Creamery Car Show on Saturday and then Sunday at the Elks Club with the Rod & Custom car show.  Make sure you enjoy Music in the Plaza Friday night from 7-9 in 10th St Plaza  because it is going to rock with Triple DDD. What a great season of speed, chrome & rock and roll we have had.  Vroom vroom.

As we head into the weekend, a great show at Ironstone with  Ziggy Marley, Michael Frante and The English Beat on Friday night.  Wow, what a line up. Get tix at http://ironstoneamphitheatre.net/wired/

The Playground at East LaLoma Park needs you.  The old equipment is gone and we have to build a new playground.  Please consider attending the Party for the Park Saturday evening at the Modesto Mercedes Benz dealership.  Your $60 tix will help us install new playground equipment. There will be great tastes from Bauers 661/2, Skewers, Blaker Brewing, LoFi Cocktail Lounge with music by Neil Beuttner with great silent auction prizes. You can help make this happen and you get get tix here.

Thanks to all of you that came out to Night at the Bowl for MoBand and GraffitiCon this weekend.  We love the way you support our community.   ModestoView is here everyday, Serving Civic Pride Daily.   Hope to see you out and about  — Chris Murphy

Go Hollywood to help East LaLoma Park – June 29

By ModestoView

Yes, friends, we need your help to build a new playground. A few years ago, all of the playground equipment was removed, with nothing left for kids to play on. East LaLoma Park is important to the community and families need a safe and fun place to play. You can help the LaLoma Neighborhood Association build a new playground, close to the pavilion that will revitalize this park. You can donate to the LaLoma GoFundMe page at www.gofundme.com/la-loma-neighborhood-improvements Read More

FoodView: Fast Eddie’s M.O.A.B.

By Chris Murphy

You can’t create authenticity and you can find loads of it at Fast Eddie’s M.O.A.B., Meal On A Bun. Flat out, this place holds the title of the longest running restaurant in the same location in Modesto, now operating in the same place since 1952. “Fast” Eddie Gibson started there in 1962 as a Roosevelt 8th grader, picking up trash, taking out the garbage and peeling potatoes right in the middle of the classic cruise era. Located on Tully Rd, MOAB saw it’s share of action as a pre and post cruise hangout now for over 67 years. The best part is, that everything tastes the same as it did then, and that’s what keeps people coming back for more, sometimes daily. Read More

Best Movie Popcorn

By Chris Murphy

I don’t care if I have just finished a huge meal, but when you walk into the movie theatre, I have this Pavlovian urge to get the largest popcorn possible. Movies and Popcorn go hand in hand. One of my and Becky’s all time fave movie popcorn experiences can be found at the Seattle Cinerama where they offer chocolate covered popcorn and you can get a 50/50 of regular salted and chocolate. Ermegerd. But locally, there is a truly hall of fame popcorn that you need to experience. The State Theatre is far and away the best local movie popcorn. Read More
