Greetings Friends!
First off, thank you to all that donated to our Heart Walk team. Our team was very successful and we made a good showing at the walk. We appreciate your support. I will be part of the Bow Tie Guys raising $ selling raffle tickets at the Power of the Purse on Thursday so I’ll be looking for you. Coming soon will be our Walk a Mile in Her Shoes for Haven next year so stay tuned. This is going to be a fun week after enjoying a bit of rain on Monday, we are in for cooler temps, which mean amazing evenings on the patios of our houses and restaurants. On Thursday, enjoy Taste of McHenry Village and enjoy many treats, music, arts and crafts and a great night in the Village. You can get tix the night of the event. Music in the Plaza gets exotic with Dharma Latin Jazz Friday evening and you really need to check this out and enjoy 10th St Plaza. And the big annual taste treat of all is the Greek Food Festival at the Greek Church. Enjoy the dancing, the coffee, the culture the food and have a lot of fun. Don’t miss out on the Loukoumades. You can get your country on with Billy Currington at the Fruit Yard on Friday. It is going to be a beautiful evening.
Modesto has some amazing architecture and the MAD Week begins Saturday with the film kick off at the State Theatre. Modesto Architecture and Design will be on display, with classes, tours, and craft events all week long. Check out www.modestoview.com for the full week schedule. It is a really cool Modesto experience.

If you are watching the Ken Burns series on Country Music, you will notice that they have regular talked about Modesto’s Maddox Brothers and Rose, but have not been mentioning Modesto or KTRB and the contribution of Fred Maddox’s slappin’ bass technique that changed music forever. We hope that they cover more about Hillbilly Boogie / Rockabilly in the next segments. But Marty Stuart laid out the connection from our own Maddox Bros and Rose to the birth of Rock and Roll. On a sad note, we have lost one of our Legends of the Cruise. Bart Bartoni passed away last week. He was one of the innovators of the classic car age. He and friend Gene Winfield helped start the classic custom car shows and Bart was a pillar of our cruising and car era and his Bartoni Jewelers on 10th St was in the middle of it all. Bartoni Lane was rededicated this week and there will be a celebration car show and cruise on Sept 22 in downtown Modesto with a final 10th St Cruise for Bart at 1:30 and then a celebration of life at the Fruityard.
Enjoy our Modesto events, our history and our classic culture and personalities.
Hope to see you out and about. – Chris Murphy
