ModestoView News Letter

Greetings Friends!

Have you been diggin’ the big huge full moon for the last few days. It’s the perfect way to start heading into October next week.  But wait, there is a really big weekend coming up and tons of stuff happening this week you won’t want to miss.

This Friday is the last Music in the Plaza for the season and it will be featuring Threshold as they rock the night away in 10th St Plaza. The Modesto Certified Farmers Market has the best fall tastes like squash, persimmons and big giant heirloom tomatoes. Speaking of tasty treats, the Downtown Sampler is back and it is next Tuesday evening at 6 pm.  There will be over 30 restaurants and more that 12 bands and strolling musicians to make the evening perfect.  Plus, all of your friends will be there so please check out the Sampler.  Your taste buds will thank you.

Speaking of “Thank You”; thank you to all of the people that came out and supported The Community Brunch on Sunday.  It was truly a wonderful day, loaded with gourmet brunch treats all served by 5 area non-profits.  The food was fantastic, the music was great, and the community support and the hundreds of volunteers made it a huge success.  You can see a photo gallery from the Brunch at www.facebook.com/modestoview.  Thanks to the Costa Family Foundation for guiding this event to big success.  Look for #communitybrunch2018 online.

The MAMA Awards are coming up on October 16, live from the State Theatre.  You are the key to the success as you are the voter.  Support our local music scene, bands, events and venues by voting for the Modesto Area Music Awards at www.modestoareamusic.com. There are over 20 categories and over 200 nominees.  Your fave bands would appreciate it.

We hope to see you out and about and if you get a chance, say hello.  We would love to meet you.  Thanks so much and have a great week.   – Chris Murphy

The Sampler is Back

By Middagh Goodwin

The Downtown Sampler returned last year and was a big hit. A couple of thousand people came to downtown and walked stroll and rode their bikes to over 25 restaurant, cafes and bars to sample what they had to offer. 10 bands several of them are Modesto Area Award Winners,  were placed strategically throughout the Sampler footprint with two wandering minstrels playing in random locations over the evening.  Read More  Buy Tickets

Unplugged View:  Hot Club Time Machine

My friend Marie Maxfield is as devoted to her art as any musician I’ve ever met. She can play most every instrument in the orchestra. She plays with symphonies all over the county and in the Bay Area. She played onstage the day after bringing a bundle of joy into the world. And if she were aboard the Titanic, I am sure she’d go right on playing her instrument as the ship went down, just like in that movie. God himself could not sink Marie’s spirits when she’s immersed in making melody. Read More
