Greetings Friends,
Wow, what a cool 2021 Graffiti Summer in August. We essentially had our own Hot August Nights, but that name is taken, and besides, we have our own Graffiti Summer which is 10 times cooler. It was so great to see people out at the car shows, so cool to see all of the different ages, the huge number of classics and low riders as well as the addition of Coffee and Cars exotics crowd. This is really it friends, our Classic Car culture is so much more than a 57 Chevy, although that is an extremely cool car. Graffiti is about the kids restoring an old Falcon and embracing our cultural variety and the next generations. The amount of work, art and detail that go into the low riders and the retro highway travel vacation cars with the restored luggage are so very cool. This is the lifestyle, the art, the paint, the Rockabilly music and the pin-up style that make this all so exciting. Working on the Graffiti USA Museum, we are going to make sure that this is all part of our mission. It’s going to be a lot of fun and hope you will join in at www.graffitiusamuseum.com
A huge thanks to the North Modesto Kiwanis. Their American Graffiti Festival and Show is the big one that helped bring Graffiti back to Modesto 22 years ago. On the eve of the annual Cruise Parade, we inducted our 2021 Legends of the Cruise on the Walk of Fame and it is so great to recognize these folks that lived the American Graffiti story. The big surprise of the night, that completely caught me off guard, was my own induction to the Walk of Fame and being named Grand Marshal of the 2021 Cruise Parade. This is such an honor and I am so very grateful to all of the hard work of the North Modesto Kiwanis for including me with the legends and marshals that came before me. I and my family thank you.
We are out and about, carefully. Not only are we still on the doorstep of normal life, we are very watchful about the events that have been planned and we need to stay on top of what is happening. ModestoView is here to make sure we keep you up to date. Our calendar is starting to fill up again, but our ace expert Middagh Goodwin is keeping an eye on the status of our live and in person events. Make sure you let us know what is happening via email at events@modestoview.com<mailto:events@modestoview.com> and we will connect you with our community.
It’s time to get healthy. As we venture out, it is really important that we get and stay healthy. We live in an area with amazing fresh food and there are many new options for plant based nutrition. There are also great ways to stay in shape in the great outdoors in our public spaces. We followed Modesto’s Ninja Poet Sam Pierstorff on one of his Urban Jungle cruises and tried some excellent vegan food options. Also, we are showcasing our heath and wellness events for this month with the return of the charity walks so please donate if you are able to. I hope that you will find this as interesting as I do.
And now, the elephant in the room.
Let’s make this simple as we are talking about health. Now that the Vaccine is FDA Approved, there is no excuse to be unvaccinated. As of Aug 28, Stanislaus County is still less than 50% fully vaccinated. The way to open our economy is to get vaccinated. Really. It is safe and the 99.2% of COVID fatalities are those unvaccinated. Stay alive, & git ‘er done. Protect yourself and more importantly, others. You can get vaccinated at nearly every pharmacy and there are county locations. Talk to your local health care professional if you need facts.
Thanks to our local business for supporting ModestoView as ModestoView has been here for you, through the toughest times of the pandemic and now as we open up. So we go into September, into football season, fall fund raiser season and tomato fresh pack season and it will be fun. Our family has our fantasy football league set up and it will be fun. I hope to see you all out and about and thank you so much for being a ModestoView reader. ‘
With Gratitude,
